It was shearing day at Sheepdog Junction and this little 5 day old lamb was motherless....All alone in the pasture until mom was done being shorn. The lamb cried incessantly in her absence. It would wander around the pasture and just lay down to sleep for about 3 minutes and then struggle with its new legs to get up again. Then it would baa it's little head off and then lay down again. This lamb was separated off from the rest of sheep and lambs because it's so young and could've easily been injured in the chaotic holding pen.
I've been photographing the goings-on here on this farm for a month or so now. Photographically speaking, I haven't captured anything monumental but, journalistically I've got some interesting stuff. The purpose of the sheep is so that the sheep herding dogs have some sheep to chase. The owner teaches handlers and their dogs to herd by using commands only, either whistle or voice. It's amazing to watch.
